Equity Release Scotland (ERS) is delighted that its ambassador and former Scotland goalkeeper Alan Rough has been awarded an MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List for his contributions to football and charity.

Alan won 53 caps as a goalkeeper for Scotland and was included in three FIFA World Cup squads. He also had a successful club career, principally with Partick Thistle and Hibernian, and was inducted into the Scottish Football Hall of Fame in 2013. He now has a career in media and is an ambassador for ERS – Scotland’s leading Equity Release specialists.

Alan Rough, ERS Company Ambassador said: “I’m thrilled to be among the Scottish players who have been honoured. It’s incredible that I’ve been awarded an MBE at the age of 70, after more than 50 years in the game. I would like to thank my family, fans and the team at ERS for their kind words of support.”

Alastair Shields, ERS Senior Equity Release Adviser said: “Alan has been an Ambassador for ERS for over two years and has often regaled the team with stories from his playing days. It’s fantastic that his efforts have been recognised, and that he has been awarded an MBE for his services.”

Anthony Doherty, ERS Senior Equity Release Adviser said: “Roughie is regarded as a true Scottish football legend. On behalf of the ERS team, we would like to congratulate him on his well-deserved award in the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Honours.”

Regulatory Information:

Equity Release Council Product Standards These products do not meet all of the product standards as they are not secured on the main residence. The following standards do not apply:
• The right to remain in the property for life, or until the customer moves into long term care
• The right to move to a suitable alternative property.
However, the remaining standards do apply, including a No Negative Equity Guarantee, fixed interest rates and independent legal advice. Regulation and the FSCS whilst our Buy-to-Let Mortgages share characteristics with a Lifetime Mortgage, they are not a Lifetime Mortgage, as defined by the FCA.
There are two different types of mortgages for Buy-to-Let properties, and our products can be used for either scenario:
• ‘Buy-to-Let’ is used to describe most mortgages on properties that are let out. These are not regulated by the FCA. This means that your customer will not benefit from the protection of the FCA conduct rules or the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS).
• ‘Consumer Buy-to-Let’ is used to describe mortgages on properties that were not originally purchased to let out. These are regulated by the FCA. This means that your customer will benefit from the protection of the FCA conduct rules and the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS).
